The latest iPhone 15 from Apple is about to hit the market. It has multiple modifications in accessories, design, make, battery, charging speed, camera colors, etc. from its predecessors. Let’s dissect them.
iPhone 15 Models
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a reliable source of Apple’s product plans for over 10 years, reported that the iPhone 15 lineup will consist of four models: the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15.
Switching from lightning cord to USB-C port
According to 9to5Mac, the entire iPhone 15 lineup is expected to feature a USB-C port instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector. The implementation of USB-C is expected to be different throughout the lineup, with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models likely to support faster connectivity speeds. A major rumor about the iPhone 15 is that it will support up to 35W of charging power. This is faster than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which has a lightning connector and can charge up to 28.5W. However, the iPhone 15 may still lag behind some Android devices in terms of fast charging.
Apple is expected to comply with a new law by late 2024, which will bring them in line with the rest of the industry and create a universal standard for all devices. The European Union regulators forced this change on the tech giant to earn them a respite from their ire. Apple is expected to roll out the change globally instead of creating a region-specific variant of every phone.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the Pro models of the iPhone 15 will get USB 3.2 thunderbolt data speeds (40 Gbps), while the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus models will have the same speed as Lightning connections, which is USB 2.0. It is unclear if Apple will improve the time it takes to charge the iPhone 15 from 0% to 50%, which is currently 30 minutes.
Color range
Another leak from Unknownz21, a well-known Apple insider, suggests that the iPhone 15 has been tested in various colors, such as Green, Blue, Yellow, and Orange, and some unclear ones, such as Pink/Rose Gold/Blush Gold and Black/Midnight/Dark/Basalt. Not all test colors may be released, but an orange iPhone would surely be very popular.
Design and Camera
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will borrow some specs. from the iPhone 14 Pro, such as the Dynamic Island design, the A16 chip, and the 48-megapixel main camera. iPhone 15 Pro and the Pro Max (or Ultra) will have a titanium body, a new solid-state Action button, and ultra-thin bezels.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to receive an additional 12-megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to get a new 5-6x optical-zoom-periscope lens. A 10x optical zoom camera, a first for Apple, will be added to the i15 Pro Max. However, this will also increase its price significantly, which may make some buyers choose the regular models instead. So, an expected triple sensor setup is about to be seen comprising of:
- 48MP wide (24mm f/2.8)
- 12MP ultrawide (13mm f/2.2)
- 12MP telephoto (77mm f/2.8) w/ 3x optical zoom
According to leaks, the Pro model is expected to feature new Sony-produced sensors that capture more light. The quality of sensors used is expected to be the main difference between the iPhone 15 Pro’s cameras and the iPhone 14 Pro’s. The selfie shooting camera in the pro-Max model may have a dual-lens setup, upgrading from its predecessor’s TrueDepth 12 megapixels camera. The phone’s main upgrades seem likely to come in the design department, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, given the strength of the iPhone 14 Pro’s cameras.
Battery Capacity
According to ITHome, this phone will have a bigger battery capacity than its predecessors. The base model will have a 15% increase, while the Plus, Pro, and Pro Max models will have 12% and 11% increases, respectively.
Launch to market
As for the release date, Sources told Gurman that the iPhone 15 series would be unveiled at an Apple event on September 12 or 13 and that they would be available “around” September 22.
